Description
Padparadscha is widely considered the rarest and most romanticised colour in the entire sapphire family — a delicate blend of pink and orange reminiscent of a lotus flower or a tropical sunset.
About Padparadscha Sapphire
The name comes from the Sanskrit and Sinhala words for lotus blossom (padma raga), describing the gemstone's soft, glowing balance of pink and orange — neither pure pink sapphire nor pure orange sapphire, but a harmonious blend of both. Historically associated with Sri Lanka, fine padparadscha is now also found in Madagascar.
Because this precise colour balance is so difficult to find in nature, gemological labs apply strict criteria before certifying a stone as padparadscha, and even minor shifts toward pure pink or pure orange disqualify it from the category — which is exactly why genuine padparadscha sapphires command such a premium.
Astrological Significance
Padparadscha does not have a defined role in the classical Vedic Navratna system, but its lotus symbolism carries deep resonance in Indian spiritual traditions, where the lotus represents purity, spiritual awakening and rising above difficulty. Many wearers choose it for this symbolic meaning as much as for its rarity and beauty.
Who Should Wear This Stone
Padparadscha Sapphire suits those who want a truly individual gemstone with a compelling story — ideal for statement rings, engagement jewellery and collectors who appreciate rarity within the sapphire family.
Quality You Can Trust
Certification is especially important for padparadscha, since the category is defined by a precise colour range rather than a single shade; an independent lab report confirms both natural origin and that the stone genuinely meets padparadscha colour criteria. Treatment (typically heat) is common and always disclosed.
Care Instructions
As a sapphire, padparadscha rates 9 on the Mohs hardness scale and is excellent for daily wear. Clean with mild soap and warm water, and store separately from softer stones to prevent scratching.

Things you want to know
A very specific balance of pink and orange hues — confirmed by an independent gemological lab, since the definition is precise and not just a marketing term.
It comes from the Sanskrit and Sinhala words for lotus blossom, describing the stone's soft pink-orange glow.
Yes — because the exact colour balance required is so specific, genuine padparadscha sapphires are considerably rarer than most other sapphire colours, including blue.
Most padparadscha sapphires are heat-treated to refine their colour, a standard and disclosed enhancement; untreated stones are rarer still.
It isn't part of the classical nine Vedic gemstones, though its lotus symbolism is meaningful in Indian spiritual traditions.
