Custom Duty & Taxes
International Customs, Duties & Taxes
GemsMantra ships natural gemstones, rudraksha and jewellery from India to 150+ countries, fully insured. Any import duty or local sales tax is set by your country’s customs — use the country lookup below to estimate what you may pay on delivery, and read exactly how the process works before you order.
How international customs works on a gemstone order
When you order from GemsMantra, the price you pay us covers the product, its GemsMantra Authenticity Report and insured international shipping. It does not include your own country’s import duty or sales tax — those are charged separately by your government’s customs department when the parcel arrives. This is standard DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) shipping, used by virtually every cross-border jeweller.
Two things decide the amount: the item type (loose gemstones are duty-free almost everywhere; finished jewellery attracts a small duty) and the declared value. Many countries also set a de-minimis threshold below which no duty is charged — for example, the USA is duty & tax-free under US$800, and Australia under A$1,000. Select your country below for the specific rates we see most often.

Before you order — important points
Organic gems (Red Coral, Pearl) can be restricted
A few countries restrict the import of certain organic gemstones such as Red Coral (Moonga) and natural Pearl (Moti) under wildlife or environmental rules. If you order one of these and it cannot be legally imported to your country, we’ll advise you before dispatch and help you choose an alternative or refund the item.
We declare honestly — no under-valuing
By law we must declare the true item and value on the customs invoice. We cannot mark a parcel as a “gift” or under-declare its value to reduce your duty — doing so is illegal and risks your parcel being seized. Please factor potential duty into your budget.
High-value stones ship with signature delivery
Higher-value gemstones are dispatched with signature or OTP confirmation and full insurance. If you need delivery by a specific date (for example an auspicious muhurat), tell us on WhatsApp and we’ll do our best to align dispatch.
