— Most Asked —
Please note: Gemstones, rudraksha, yantras and astrological guidance on GemsMantra are offered for spiritual, informational and traditional (Vedic) purposes only. They are not medicine and do not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Individual experiences vary and no specific result is guaranteed. This is not a substitute for professional medical, legal or financial advice.

🛡️ Authenticity & Certification

Authenticity is everything in this category. Every GemsMantra gemstone and rudraksha ships with a verifiable GemsMantra Authenticity Report, is checked before dispatch, and is backed by a simple promise — if a stone is ever proven synthetic, you are refunded in full. Here is exactly how we prove a natural, genuine stone.

Are your gemstones and rudraksha 100% natural and real?

Yes — GemsMantra deals only in natural, untreated gemstones and original Nepali & Indonesian rudraksha.

We never sell lab-grown, dyed or glass-filled substitutes. Every order ships with a GemsMantra Authenticity Report you can verify online by its report number.
Who certifies your gemstones — is it an in-house or a third-party lab?

Every item comes with a free GemsMantra Authenticity Report, verifiable online by report number.

How can I tell if my gemstone is real and not synthetic, glass or a look-alike?

Three checks: verify the report number, look for natural inclusions, and re-test independently.

Natural stones carry tiny inclusions and uneven colour zoning that synthetics lack. You can re-test at any Government-recognised or ISO-certified gem lab — and if it's ever proven synthetic, you get a 100% refund.
Can I get the stone independently re-tested, and will you refund if it fails?

Yes. Take it to any Government-recognised or ISO-certified gemological institute.

If it is proven synthetic or artificial, you're entitled to a 100% refund, return or exchange (your choice). Courier and any duties are non-refundable and return shipping is arranged by you.
Is the stone treated — heated, oiled, dyed or filled — and is that disclosed?

We deal in natural, untreated stones, and any treatment status is stated with the stone.

Common trade treatments (heating, oiling, glass-filling) reduce astrological value, which is why GemsMantra focuses on natural, untreated gems. Your report states the treatment finding.
How is a rudraksha's mukhi (face) count authenticated?

By its natural surface lines (mukhis) that run unbroken end to end — and, for certainty, an X-ray.

Choose the “With X-Ray Certificate” option (+₹450) on eligible rudraksha to receive an independent X-ray lab report of your exact bead, showing the internal seed compartments that confirm the true mukhi count and rule out glued or carved fakes.
How do I verify my certificate is genuine online?

Enter the report number printed on your report card on our Verify Certificate page.

For an independent lab report, you can also verify the number on that lab's own website.

💎 Choosing the Right Gemstone

The right gemstone is chosen from your Vedic birth chart, not guesswork. Use our free Gemstone Calculator for an instant date-of-birth suggestion, or consult our astrologer for a recommendation from your full kundali — then wear it on the correct finger, in the right metal, at the right weight.

Which gemstone should I wear as per my rashi / date of birth?

It's chosen from your Vedic birth chart, not just your sun sign.

Use our free Gemstone Calculator for an instant suggestion, or book a consultation for a recommendation from your full kundali (date, time and place of birth).
Which finger, hand and metal should my gemstone be set in?

Yellow Sapphire — index finger; Blue Sapphire, Emerald, Opal, Hessonite — middle finger; Ruby, Red Coral — ring finger; Pearl — little finger; worn on the working hand.

Metal follows the planet — gold for Jupiter/Sun stones (Pukhraj, Ruby), silver for Moon/Venus stones (Pearl, Diamond), and panchdhatu is a universal option.
How many ratti / carats should I wear for my body weight?

A widely used guideline is a minimum of about 1/12 of your body weight in carats — e.g. ~5 carats for a 60 kg person.

1 carat ≈ 1.10 ratti ≈ 0.2 grams. Every product page shows the exact weight.
What is the difference between the astrological name and the gem name?

They're the same stones under Hindi/Vedic vs trade names.

Pukhraj = Yellow Sapphire, Neelam = Blue Sapphire, Manik = Ruby, Panna = Emerald, Moonga = Red Coral, Moti = Pearl, Gomed = Hessonite, Lehsunia = Cat's Eye.
Can the wrong gemstone harm me — and can I trial it first (e.g. Neelam)?

In Vedic belief, a strong stone like Blue Sapphire (Neelam) is traditionally trialled before wearing permanently.

Many wearers keep it under the pillow or wear it for ~3 days and observe. This is traditional belief, not a guarantee — we recommend a consultation before choosing fast-acting stones.
Is there a cheaper substitute (upratna) if I can't afford the main stone?

Yes — most primary gems have a traditional semi-precious substitute (upratna).

e.g. Topaz/Citrine for Yellow Sapphire, Amethyst for Blue Sapphire, Green Onyx for Emerald. Substitutes are traditionally considered milder.

📿 Choosing & Understanding Rudraksha

From the 5 Mukhi to rare Nepali beads, the right rudraksha depends on your goal and your chart. Explore rudraksha by purpose — wealth, health, career, protection — or use the Rudraksha Calculator. Below: how to tell an original bead, Nepali vs Java, and who can wear one.

Which rudraksha is best — and which mukhi is right for me?

There's no single “best” — the right mukhi depends on your goal and birth chart.

The 5 Mukhi is the most universal and widely worn. For a specific goal, use the Rudraksha Calculator or Shop by Purpose, or consult our astrologer.
How do I identify an original rudraksha — does the water/sink test work?

The float/sink water test is unreliable — genuine and fake beads can both sink.

Real beads show natural mukhi lines running unbroken end-to-end, a firm surface, and (most reliably) a clean internal structure on X-ray. Choose our “With X-Ray Certificate” option for definitive proof.
What is a rudraksha and what is it made of?

A rudraksha is the dried seed of the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree, worn in Hindu tradition as a sacred bead of Shiva.

The number of natural clefts on its surface is its “mukhi” (face). GemsMantra offers original Nepali and Indonesian (Java) beads.
Nepali vs Indonesian (Java) rudraksha — why the price difference?

Nepali beads are larger with deeper, well-defined mukhis and are rarer, so they cost more; Java beads are smaller and more affordable.

Both are genuine and effective in tradition.
Can women / girls wear rudraksha, including during menstruation?

Yes — rudraksha can be worn by anyone of any gender, age or faith.

Regarding menstruation, traditions vary. Our position is that it is a personal choice — do what feels right for you.

🕉️ Does It Really Work? (Belief & Honesty)

We are honest about belief. Gemstone and rudraksha remedies come from traditional Vedic texts, worn for spiritual and astrological purposes — not as medicine. Here is our clear, no-hype position on what they are and are not.

Do gemstones and rudraksha actually work — is there scientific proof?

Their use is based on traditional Vedic belief and classical texts, not modern medical or scientific proof.

People wear them for spiritual focus and as an astrological remedy. Experiences are personal and vary; GemsMantra makes no guarantee of any specific outcome.
Do these remedies work regardless of religion?

Rooted in Vedic tradition, but anyone of any faith or none is welcome to wear them.

Many wear gemstones simply as certified natural stones or jewellery. It is entirely your personal choice.
How long before I see results, and what should I realistically expect?

Traditionally, effects are said to be felt gradually over days to a few weeks — but this is belief, not a promise.

We deliberately avoid any guaranteed-outcome claims. Wear it with faith and patience.
Are there side effects or warning signs after wearing a stone?

In tradition, some believe an unsuitable stone can feel unsettling.

If wearing anything feels wrong, remove it and consult an astrologer. This is traditional guidance, not medical advice — for any health concern, see a doctor.

✨ Wearing & Energization

A stone or bead is traditionally activated before you wear it. Rudraksha ships pre-energised and ready to wear; gemstone energisation (pran-pratishtha) is an optional add-on. Below: the correct day, finger, metal and mantra for each, step by step.

Are your products energised (pran-pratishtha) before dispatch?

Rudraksha ships pre-energised and ready to wear at no extra cost; for gemstones, energisation is an optional add-on.

During Sawan, prepaid orders receive a free group Rudrabhishek energisation before dispatch.
How do I wear and activate my rudraksha? (step by step)

Wear it first on a Monday morning after a bath.

  • Soak the bead in clean water or raw cow's milk, then rinse.
  • Chant its beej mantra (usually Om Namah Shivaya) 108 times.
  • Wear on a silk/cotton thread or a silver/gold chain so it touches the skin.
How do I wear and activate my gemstone (e.g. Pukhraj)?

Example — Yellow Sapphire (Pukhraj): wear on a Thursday, early morning (5–7 am), on the index finger of the working hand.

Set in gold or panchdhatu, dip in gangajal/raw milk, chant its mantra, then wear. Each stone's exact details ship with your order.
Can I wear multiple gemstones together — which combinations are forbidden?

Some pairings are traditionally avoided because their planets conflict.

Commonly avoided in Vedic belief: Ruby + Blue Sapphire, Diamond + Ruby, Pearl + Hessonite, Diamond + Red Coral. Rudraksha can generally be worn with gemstones.
Who should NOT wear a particular stone, and does it need to touch the skin?

Suitability depends on your chart.

Yes, it's traditionally worn so the stone touches the skin. If a stone cracks or chips, it's customarily replaced. A consultation confirms what suits you.
Can I keep it on while sleeping, bathing, or during a funeral?

Rudraksha is generally worn continuously, including while sleeping and bathing (avoid soap/chemicals on it).

Customarily removed during funerals and by some during menstruation — followed as per personal belief.

🧼 Care & Maintenance

Cared for well, a natural gemstone lasts generations and a rudraksha deepens with age. Here is exactly how to clean, store and re-energise your pieces — and what to keep them away from.

How do I clean and care for my gemstone?

Wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid harsh chemicals, ultrasonic and steam cleaners.

Organic gems (Pearl, Coral) are soft — keep them away from perfume, acids and heat.
How do I care for and re-energise my rudraksha?

Oil the beads occasionally (mustard/olive/sandalwood oil) to prevent drying and cracking.

You can re-energise periodically by chanting the mantra. Store in a clean, dry place; avoid harsh soap and prolonged water.

💰 Price, Quality & Origin

Two Pukhraj stones can differ 40x in price for good reason. Here is what actually sets natural-gemstone value — weight, colour, clarity, cut and origin — and our honest, no-inflated-MRP pricing.

Why does the same gemstone vary so much in price?

Natural-gem price depends on weight, colour, clarity, cut and origin — the “4Cs” plus source.

A 5-ratti and a 12-ratti Pukhraj, or a Ceylon vs Bangkok origin, are genuinely different stones. Each product page states the exact weight and grade.
Does origin (Ceylon / Burma / Zambia) matter, and is Ceylon really better?

Origin affects colour, clarity and price — e.g. Ceylon sapphires and Burmese rubies command premiums.

Astrologically, what matters most is that the stone is natural, untreated and of good clarity. We state each stone's origin.
Is the strike-through (MRP) price genuine?

Yes. The price you pay is clearly shown and we don't inflate MRPs to fake a discount.

Does the price include the certificate, energization and the ring/pendant setting?

The stone price includes its GemsMantra Authenticity Report.

A setting, gemstone energisation, the rudraksha X-ray certificate (+₹450) and a personalised pooja are optional paid add-ons shown at checkout.
