Gemstone by Planet (Navagraha) — Which Stone for Which Graha
In Vedic astrology, nine planets shape every birth chart — and each graha is traditionally strengthened by one specific natural gemstone. Find your planet, its stone, and how it is worn.
The Navagraha are the nine celestial influences of Jyotish (Vedic astrology): the Sun and Moon, five visible planets (Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn) and the two lunar nodes (Rahu and Ketu). In the ratna vigyan (gemstone science) tradition, each graha is said to resonate with one primary gemstone. Wearing that stone is believed to strengthen a favourable planet or steady a challenging one — always as a matter of tradition and personal faith, never a promised result. Below is the classic planet-to-gemstone map, followed by how the right stone is chosen from your own chart.
The nine planetary gemstones at a glance
Use this table to see, for each of the nine grahas, its primary gemstone (with the Hindi name), the finger, metal and weekday it is traditionally worn on, and what the pairing signifies in Vedic belief. Tap any stone to explore certified, natural options.
| Planet (Graha) | Gemstone | Finger · Metal · Day | Traditional significance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Surya · Sun | Ruby — Manik | Ring finger · Gold · Sunday | Traditionally associated with confidence, vitality and leadership. |

| Ketu · South node | Cat's Eye — Lehsuniya | Ring or little finger · Silver or panchdhatu · Thursday | Associated in tradition with intuition, detachment and focus. |
Finger, metal and weekday customs vary by regional and family tradition — the above are the most commonly cited. Diamond is the classical stone for Venus; Opal and White Sapphire are its widely used natural substitutes.
Each graha and its gemstone

How your gemstone is chosen from the birth chart
Picking a stone by planet alone is only the starting point. In Jyotish, the right gemstone depends on your ascendant (lagna) and how each planet sits in your personal chart — the same planet can be helpful for one ascendant and better avoided for another. Astrologers generally weigh a few things:
1. Your ascendant and planetary lordships
The lagna decides which planets are natural benefics for you. A stone is usually recommended for a planet that is favourable but weak, so its qualities are supported.
2. Life-stone, benefic-stone or dasha-stone
Some wear a lifelong stone for their ascendant lord; others add a stone for the planet whose mahadasha (period) is currently running. The goal is balance, not stacking every stone at once.
3. Handle strong stones with care
Blue Sapphire (Neelam), Hessonite (Gomed) and Cat's Eye (Lehsuniya) are considered powerful and are traditionally tested on a short trial before regular wear.
4. Confirm before you buy

Navratna — all nine gems in one
When someone wants to honour every graha at once, the nine planetary stones are set together in a single piece called Navratna (“nine gems”). Traditionally the Ruby sits at the centre for the Sun, with the other eight arranged around it in their prescribed order. It is worn as a general, all-round choice when no single planet stands out for individual treatment — and, like any gemstone, is a matter of tradition and personal belief rather than a promised outcome.
