Sawan 2026: Dates, Somvar Calendar & Which Rudraksha to Wear
Shravan (Sawan) 2026 runs from Thursday, 30 July to Friday, 28 August 2026. It is the holiest month of the year for Lord Shiva's devotees — the month of Somvar fasts, jalabhishek, Kanwar Yatra and Rudrabhishek. It is also, by tradition, the single best time of the year to begin wearing a Rudraksha.

Why begin Rudraksha in Sawan?
Rudraksha means "the eye of Rudra" — the Puranas describe it as born of Lord Shiva himself. Because Shravan is Shiva's own month, tradition holds that a Rudraksha first worn in Sawan — cleansed, energised and worn on a Somvar morning — is begun at the most auspicious possible moment. Devotees typically wear it after chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" 108 times.
